Literally next door to Casa Passadiço, Solar do Passadiço is a family-run restaurant serving honest, home-style Portuguese cooking. Think grilled fish, steak, daily specials and generous portions at local prices — around €10–15 per person. The staff are warm, the atmosphere is cosy, and it's the kind of place where regulars have their usual table. Open Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner, Saturdays until mid-afternoon. It's the perfect first meal after you arrive.

Campo dos Mártires da Pátria
A five-minute walk uphill brings you to one of Lisbon's most charming and overlooked squares. Known locally as Campo de Santana, this leafy 2.6-hectare garden is framed by elegant pastel-coloured Pombaline buildings and shaded by pine, jacaranda, and weeping willow trees. There's a duck pond where chickens, geese, and roosters roam freely — kids love it. You'll find benches, chess tables, a playground across the street, and a glass-fronted restaurant in the park itself. At one end stands the statue of Dr. Sousa Martins, a 19th-century doctor beloved for treating the poor, where locals still leave candles and offerings. It's a peaceful, genuinely local spot that most tourists never find.

Jardim do Torel — A Hidden Viewpoint
From Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, it's a short walk to Jardim do Torel — one of Lisbon's best-kept secrets. This hillside garden dates back to the 18th century and is split across two levels: a shaded upper terrace with grass and trees, and a lower level with a café, a viewpoint, and panoramic views over Avenida da Liberdade, the rooftops of Baixa, and the Tagus River. In summer, the central fountain doubles as a small pool. Come at sunset for the best light — and far fewer crowds than the more famous miradouros. You can reach it via the Elevador do Lavra, Lisbon's oldest funicular, which starts just off Avenida da Liberdade or walk straight there in 6 minutes.

Avenida da Liberdade
Lisbon's grand boulevard is a two-minute walk from your front door. Tree-lined pavements, designer shops, sidewalk cafes, and some of the city's best restaurants line both sides. It's also the starting point for exploring uphill towards Príncipe Real or downhill towards Praça do Comércio and the river.

Príncipe Real & Bairro Alto
A 15-minute walk uphill takes you to Príncipe Real — full of brunch spots, boutique shopping, and the beautiful Jardim do Príncipe Real. Continue a few minutes further and you're in Bairro Alto, the heart of Lisbon's nightlife, with dozens of bars and live music venues packed into narrow streets.

Rossio & Baixa
Walk 15 minutes downhill and you'll reach Rossio, Lisbon's historic central square, and the Baixa district — the traditional shopping and café quarter. From here, Praça do Comércio and the Tagus riverfront are just a few minutes further.

Getting Around
Avenida metro station (blue line) is a 5-minute walk from the apartment. From here you can reach Lisbon airport in around 25 minutes, Belém via a short connection, and the main train stations for day trips to Sintra, Cascais, and Setúbal. The Elevador do Lavra funicular is also nearby, connecting you to the Colina de Santana. That said, most of what you'll want to see is within walking distance.
